Pasture raised eggs from a small, local flock.

This page is a straightforward look at the eggs from Peacock Acres—how the hens are kept, how eggs are collected and handled, and what you can expect when you bring a carton home. It is not a certification statement; it is simply how we do things on our farm near Richlands, NC.

If you would like to know what is currently available, a short text, call, or email is the best way to reach us.

What to expect from our pasture raised eggs

The eggs at Peacock Acres come from a modest flock of laying hens kept on pasture whenever conditions allow. The flock size is small enough that each coop and pen can be checked and cleaned by hand, and eggs are collected in person rather than by a large mechanical system.

Shell color and size will vary from dozen to dozen. That variation is normal and reflects the different breeds in the flock, the time of year, and the hens’ laying cycle. Yolk color also changes with seasons and pasture conditions, but it generally has a richer tone than many standard grocery store eggs.

How the hens are cared for

Hens at Peacock Acres are kept in simple housing with dry bedding, weather protection, and secure fencing. They have access to pasture, shade, and fresh water, and their feed is chosen to support steady laying and overall health rather than rapid, intensive production.

The routine is consistent: coops are checked, water is refreshed, feed is topped up, and hens are observed for any signs of stress or illness. When weather and ground conditions are appropriate, birds are outside on pasture to scratch, dust bathe, and hunt for bugs.

This approach is not a marketing label; it is simply how the flock is managed. The aim is calm birds, clean housing, and eggs that represent everyday, practical care.

Collection, handling, and storage

Eggs are collected by hand, checked for cracks or obvious defects, and cooled in a timely manner. Nest boxes and laying areas are monitored so that eggs are not left sitting for extended periods, particularly in warm weather.

Light cleaning is done as needed so cartons are tidy and ready for refrigeration at home. Some surface variation is to be expected with real farm eggs; the focus is on sound shells and safe handling rather than a polished, uniform appearance.

Once you bring the eggs home, standard food safety practices apply: keep them refrigerated, observe dates and your own judgment, and cook them to the level you are comfortable serving.

Availability and how to get in touch

Egg availability changes with the seasons, the laying cycle, and the size of the flock. At times there are multiple dozens ready to go; at other times, cartons are spoken for in advance.

Because of that, there is no online ordering system. The most accurate way to check current availability for pasture raised eggs is to contact the farm directly and ask what is on hand.
